I used Adobe InDesign to create a social media campagin. I completed this project for my Information Design 1 course that I took at KSU. The purpose of this campaign is to motivate its audience to contribute to their environment and help save our planet.

I chose to design my social media post for Instagram. I designed it at 1080 pixels wide by 1080 pixels high. While this social media post’s audience could potentially include anyone, it is focused toward the younger generation. The younger generation includes people that will be taking care of this planet and teaching their kids how to take care of it. Most people that use Instagram are between the ages eighteen and thirty-five, which constitutes the majority of the population. The goal of this social media post is to reach as many people as possible. Each image for this social media campaign has a different call to action with a similar theme throughout.

In order to meet Web Accessibility and W3C Standards, I followed several guidelines while designing this social media campaign. I kept the layout linear, logical, and consistent throughout the posts. I wrote in easy-to-read sentences and phrases, or “plain English.” I used simple yet contrasting colors with large fonts for readability. I also used clipart and images to support the text. I kept the content short, clear, and simple.

This social media campaign articulates several visual design principles concerning layout, colors, and fonts. I used four main colors, green, blue, white, and dark gray. The green and blue work well together because they lay analogous on the color wheel and are both cool colors. For the titles on each of the posts, I used Archivo Black. For the subheadings, I used Roboto black, and for body-text I used Roboto medium. These fonts work well together because they are both sans-serif and look very similar.

To fill in negative space and make the design more unique and cohesive throughout I used an image of a recycling symbol in the background of each post. On each of the posts I used even spacing and alignment to allow for plenty of negative space so that the content is clear. Body text is represented, at times, with clip art images. The posts have even margins throughout; however, at times the images exceed to margins to “fall off the page.”
